Jeff Koons is an American Neo Pop artist who lives and works in New York City. He is best known for his reproductions of banal objects such as balloon animals produced in stainless steel with mirror finish surfaces which have sold for substantial sums of money.
Koons studied painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Maryland Institute College of Art. After college, he moved to New York and worked at the membership desk of the Museum of Modern Art while establishing himself as an artist. His work explores contemporary obsessions with sex and desire, race and gender, and celebrity, media, commerce and fame.
Koons himself has stated that his works do not carry hidden meanings. His collaboration with Supreme in 2006 (Jeff Koons x Supreme) brings his iconic monkey imagery with surreal background on a series of skateboard decks. The boards are whimsical and colorful, just like the rest of Koons’ works.
